Kazbegi is the old name of the current village of Stepantsminda, so you can ask in different ways, you will be understood. Minibuses are the only way to get from Tbilisi to Kazbegi besides transfers and cabs. They travel quite often and their schedule is convenient.
If you want to go up to Gergeti church or see Gvelet waterfall, you need to take an SUV with a driver in the village, other transportation does not go there.

The high-mountainous region of Kazbegi is considered to be one of the most beautiful and picturesque places in Georgia. Its main attractions are the unique nature and majestic mountains, in particular the famous Kazbek peak.
But besides that there are other places worthy of attention, among them: the Church of the Holy Trinity of the XIV century or Gergeti Church, the two-cascade Gvelet waterfall, mineral lakes in Trusovski gorge, a weather station at an altitude of 3650 meters above sea level and extinct volcanoes on the Kelsky plateau.
